Cycles of matter
Matter flow- matter is recycled throughout the biome; we don't get a constant supply
Energy flow- energy flows one way and we get a constant supply from the sun that continues to the food chain

When rocks are mined or weathered, phosphorus is released in the temperate forest. Some stays on land and the other is runoff into the ocean. The phosphorus on land is absorbed by plants, like oak trees, which is eaten by animals, like deer. Animal and plant matter is decomposed by fungi in the soil which releases the phosphorus. The phosphorus in the ocean is used by marine animals to be made into biological compounds.
